It is early on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2017.
I have been thinking about events in my life over the past 365 days. To say the least, it has been one he** of an interesting year. There are things that I would have had turn out differently or done differently, but we know we can’t change those things.
One of the greatest realizations I came to was during some situations that were particularly tough and challenging, I have arrived at automatically being grateful for the situation and simultaneously looking to see the value lesson I was being taught!
Wow! I never, ever thought I would be able to. I must say to me, “Baby, you’ve come a long way!”
Scripture tells us that we should express gratitude for everything in our lives; the good, the bad and the ugly (my paraphrase) by:
“in all things giving thanks to the Lord.”
Ezra 3:11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.
Luke 2:38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
Acts 27:35 And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.
Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.1 Thessalonians 1:2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;
I am so proud of my self. That is not an arrogant statement, that my friends is a congratulatory statement to me.
Okay. Just one more pat on the back before we move on. I am actually saying to me, “Girlfriend, you are absolutely amazing! Well done!!”
Your Life – Your Story
We all learn from our life experiences and no doubt like me, you look back and wonder how you got through something. You may also think as I do, that you never want to have to go through that ever again. No one conscientiously invites pain and trouble into their lives, not unless they are masochists!
Our thoughts determine just about everything that goes on in our lives. Men who we admire for their insight and wisdom have written about this; Yeshua (or as you may call him Jesus), Buddha, Carnegie, Tolstoy, etc. A phrase I always recall is the one that says (again, my paraphrase):
“As a man thinketh, so he is.”
Mental Review – Prepare to Meet the New
We aren’t to focus on yesterday, but we can look back. I recommend you take some time today, find a quiet place and think about last year. Think about the things you would like to change in your life. Make a short list of things that you would like in your life for next year. Prioritize that list and then pray and mediate on the first item on your list. Seek guidance from Spirit and your Guardians.
Make notes of your thoughts during this time. Note them as they come to you. Don’t try to make sense of them. If it is just one word, then that is perfect, for the Lord knows it is all that you will need to accomplish this thing.
Remember, what we focus upon, we feed and it grows. You don’t have to have the whole road map for the 2018 trip through life. You just need to know the starting point and make sure you have fuel in your tank, even if it is only one word.
That one word may be the saving Grace you can think or speak when those old negative thoughts try to take over. Hold on to whatever you are given, and trust me (for the name by which I write was and is my one word – another story, another time) that there is power in every tool (word-thought) that is given to us for use in this journey.
Words and thoughts are as much energy as the fuel that feeds the engine that runs your cars! We can get all choked up by negative thoughts that clog our positive fuel line, or we can clean out the debris and move forward in a positive way. Our fuel pump just needs a new, clean filter.
Enter the New Year – Write Next Chapter of Your Life
If you have done just a few moments of preparation and conversations with the Universe about how you want 2018 to be; the things you want to see, accomplish, create, etc., you are taking back positive control of your life.
It’s not a fixed and done deed. When we have lived most of our lives thinking terrible thoughts about ourselves like:
- I’m not good enough.
- I’m not smart enough.
- I’m not pretty/handsome enough.
- I’m not wealthy enough, or I’m so poor.
- I’m too old.
- I’m too young.
- I can’t because some doctor, lawyer, priest, etc. said I can’t.
We need to replace those negative thoughts. We don’t even have to speak them or write them as I just did. We just need to think them, and as the saying goes, “as I think, so I am.”
Replace every negative thought with a positive thought. I have a few positive thoughts you can choose from. Just remember one of these and it will give you blanket coverage for any negative thought that ever has or will arise in your silly little mind. These words are my words, paraphrased from the Bible/Torah/Tanakh and the last two are my words:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
“Nothing is impossible for YHWH/God.”
“With Him, all things are possible.”
“The Lord is my strength and my salvation, whom shall I fear?”
“You gotta feel it to heal it.”
“I AM who, what, where and however I want to BE.”
My prayer for all of you, my brothers and sisters (that’s everyone – good, bad & ugly :-)) is that your lives will be fruitful, abundant and filled with joy in 2018; that you will come to see and KNOW the magnificence and beauty of who you are; that as you are blessed you will bless others; that we will join hands becoming a bridge of love and healing for every Creature and Creation on the earth and in this Universe.
