Most people know some version of the story of Moshe (Moses) and the 10 commandments. I have just uncovered a little more information (knowledge) previously unknown by me. Maybe I ‘read’ it before and just never saw it.
We heard how Moshe came down from the mountain he found the people worshipping a golden calf and he got angry and smashed the tablets. He
returned up the mountain and then came back again with the tablets.
Some may know, what I just discovered, that the tablets originally brought down were not the same as those from which the churches claim were the ten commandments found in the Bible/Torah/Tanakh.
The 10 that most of the religions speak about are the Torah which is the Tree of Knowledge for Good and Bad.
This, however is not what these Tablets were originally called, and the difference in the name does matter and it is substantial!
In scripture we read that:
“Moses turned and descended from the mountain with the two Tables of the Testimony in his hand, Tablets inscribed on both their sides; they were inscribed on one side and the other.” Exo 32:15
Then when Moshe discovered the people worshipping the golden calf, he threw down and destroyed the pure form of the Torah, the form symbolic of the Tree of Life. Written on both sides, it was the Balanced Positive, the male and the female as One, like the Tree of Life.
“It happened as he drew near the camp and saw the calf and the dances, that Moses’ anger flared up. He threw down the Tablets from his hands and shattered them at the foot of the mountains.” Exo 32:19
/> Tablet 1: Tree of Life -vs- Tablet 2: Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
Two Sets of Tablets
The name of the first set of tablets was “Tree of Life.” The name of the second set of tablets was “Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil.”
It seems to me that when Moshe first encountered the Lord and was given the Tablets, it wasn’t something that contained what we today call laws, rules, regulations and demands. Those kinds of things are issued when we seek a way of controlling people or situations that are rebellious and don’t know, or either do know but refuse to do what is
good and right.
Knowing YHWH as the Father, the children of Israel might expect that whatever it was Moshe had received from the Father would be something that was good. They knew Him as their rescuer and someone who cared for them.
Sounds just like the days in the Garden of Eden. We the people had everything. We the people became dissatisfied, wanted more … . And, we the people blew it, got locked out and were given a bunch of laws, to labour the rest of our lives, etc., etc.
I don’t know what was written on those original tablets. I am leaning towards thinking that Moshe knew and recalled all that was originally written and that these teachings, and I believe that is what they were, may have been shared by him with those who in time proved their loyalty and love towards the things of YHWH, their Father.
Could these writings and teachings in fact be those which are engraved on the tablets of our hearts? Is that why we continually hear the command not to harden our hearts? I believe that many have been given access to these teachings/writings upon opening their hearts to receive Truth from the Hand of the Creator – with the sole purpose of doing their best for the Greater Good of the All.
Perhaps they are also part of the regulations and guides of what we call secret organizations and teachings, that are withheld from the ordinary man because of the power that they held; much like our brains are locked away from most of us from accessing full potential.
As I read and uncover more information and meditate upon things that strike my heart and soul, laying them before the Lord, I am beginning to see more and more that there are secrets, powerful secrets that are being revealed to the ordinary women and men who seek the Lord with all of their heart, all of their mind and all of their soul.
The very fact that I am writing this right now about something that I undoubtedly read or even heard before, but only just now saw and heard, speaks to this theory of mine.
What’s that old saying? Oh yes, “When the student is ready the Teacher appears.”
Are We Ready to Receive from the Tree of Life
Like I said, this Moshe scenario is very much like the scenario in the Garden of Eden, when Adam and Eve blew it. They had open and free fellowship with the Lord, co-creating and naming creation. Then they decided they wanted to know and be like YHWH and they got thrown out of the Garden, barred from ever re-entering it. They ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
As a people we continue to manipulate what the Creator has set before us in this life. Even the ten commandments are manipulated by organizations and churches. A classic example is the command to keep the Sabbath. The churches have even changed the command from Sabbath to the Lord’s Day in order to justify changing the appointed Feast and Holy Days (that Yeshua never changed); i.e. Saturday to Sunday. Oy vey!!
What exactly was written on the original tablets I do not know but am sensing, as implied by the description that speaks of balance, that it was how male and female working together as one were to progress in their journey as one with YHWH; not with Him demanding and writing rules and regulations, but with Him as co-Creators of all that is good for all life form.
Darwin’s Tree of Life
Darwin proposed a tree of life which is symbolic of the common ancestral origin of all living beings. The relation or link between birds and dinosaurs is depicted with the help of this tree. It is also possible to establish an analogy between biological classification system and the concept of tree of life. The biological classification system can help in tracing any given species to its roots i.e. Eukarya, Bacteria, or Archea.
Truth be told, I never really got into Darwin nor the arguments for and against his theories. I did, however, once think that I might be the descendant of a dolphin or a member of that family, when I saw a statute of an ancient whale, not much bigger than a dolphin, with limbs that had what looked like toes or fingers at the end of them.
In some ways it explains this inexplicable thing I have for returning home to the sea to live. I always thought it was because of my childhood days, our family home on Cape Breton Island, but it could be that and so much more!!
Buddhists’ Tree of Wisdom-Enlightenment
The Bodhi-tree (wisdom-tree), according to Buddhists, is the Tree of Enlightenment. It was beneath the Bodhi-tree that Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment. The
Bodhi-tree is considered as a place where one can seek refuge from worldly desires.
Yeshua is the Light and enlightenment is simply having the ‘lights’ come on in your understanding. Yeshua being Light and Truth, then I consider in my loving relationship with him I am indeed in the presence and part of the Light that is Truth.
I believe that it’s much like those spy movies where you hear the typical response to someone who asks for information and they are told it is on a “need to know” basis that the information is shared. I believe it is exactly the same way in our walk with the Lord, and is part of the Divine Plan of implementation.
You or I may need to know something in order to walk our life’s purpose, however it is only when our eyes and ears of the heart and soul are opened and ready that we see and re-see(ve) (how do you like my play on words … receive) this truth; that the lights come on in one of those “Ah ha!” moments.
All Trees of Life – Enlightenment – Wisdom
It doesn’t matter to me which religion I look at because the principles are pretty much the same idea. Many trees, many roads – one destination.
The only tree I wish we never had need of was that of the knowledge of good and evil. Adam and Eve blew it. Moshe and the boys & girls of Old Testament times blew it.
Is our turn just around the corner, and will we too blow it? I pray not, I really do.
