Looking for a particular book in one of my bookcases my eye caught an Emmet Fox book on the 10 Commandments. I note that I bought this book way back in 1998! It has been years since I picked it up.
Casually opening the book I was lead to the chapter Thoughts are Things. Fox speaks about taking God’s name in vain and then goes on to explain what he thinks this commandment is saying.
What caught my attention is the following because of my admission in yesterday’s blog that I am still influenced within by what the RC church taught me about God, that formed the foundation of what I thought about God. Verbatim, Fox says:
What do you think of the nature of God? That is the most important question in the whole world because your idea of God will determine your whole life. From the very marrow of your bones right down to the farthest place your influence goes, all is determined ultimately by your real belief about the nature of God.
Wow is all I can say! Taught that YHWH was vengeful, hateful, cruel, sitting in high places just watching and waiting for me to mess up.
I never began to look at Him differently until my baptism at 40. Sadly that is the beginning of my studies of the Bible.
I guess, like the Hebrews wandering in the wilderness for 40 years, I too wandered in the wilderness for 40 years, until I found Yeshua (Jesus).
I am so grateful as I continue in this walk under and in the watchful care of a loving Abba Father.
I pray this helps others in their journey especially in coming to know a loving Father YHWH.
